How To Choose The Best Group Fitness Class For Your Goals

Are you on the hunt for the perfect group fitness class to match your goals?

With so many choices available, it can be challenging to decide where to begin.

Entering the world of health and fitness can be a daunting task so it is important to understand your motivation, goals, and ambitions so that you can select a training option you can adhere to long term.

Here is our Wellstrong guide to group fitness and how to pick the right training option that best suits your fitness and health goals.

Everybody has different goals, ambitions or motivations when it comes to exercise and training. The most important factor when it comes to group exercise, is to pick the right style of training to best match your goals.

Whether you’re aiming for weight loss, strength building, general fitness, injury recovery or stress relief, knowing what you want to achieve can help you select the best training option to match your motivations.

A person who wants to increase their strength might prefer a class that focuses on lifting heavy weights, using dumbbells and kettlebells whereas another person with the same goals might prefer to use cable machines and lighter weights.

The point is that everyone is unique and has their own preferences when it comes to how they want to achieve their goals. If you are able to identify 3-4 key aspects of exercise or training that are important to you, it can help guide you to the right training option.

4 things to consider when choosing the right group training for you:

1. What is your favourite style of training?
  • E.g. cardio, weights, machines, etc

2. What environment do you like to train in?
  • Do I like big groups?
  • How loud do I like the music to be?
  • Do I like large or smaller spaces?
  • Do I need lots of encouragement?

3. Do you have a clear goal for training?
  • I know want I want to achieve
  • I want to exercise but don’t have any specific goals I want to achieve
  • I have no idea, I just like to move!

4. How do you like to be coached?
  • I like to be told what to do
  • I need a little guidance but mostly independent
  • I’m a complete novice and I’d like to learn and be taught
  • I am pretty confident and just need some fine tuning

Use these questions as a guide to really give yourself a clearer understanding about yourself, your exercise goals, and what you are looking for in a group class setting.

How we approach group training

Our group classes are exclusively capped at 8 participants, ensuring that every attendee receives plenty of personalised coaching and support.
